Pest & disease distributions

Knowing which pests and diseases are present in your own, and in trading partner countries helps identify risks. We have collated a distribution workbook of pests and diseases of coconut (derived from information on the CABI Invasive Species Compendium). Notes that as the workbook information is derived from an external database, the content is limited to what is available on that source.

In addition, all of the coconut pest & disease sub-sections have distribution information.

SPC has a comprehensive online Pest List Database, that includes all of the pests and diseases found within the Pacific SPC members, including New Zealand, Australia and the United States.

The orange dots on the map below show the global distribution of the little fire ant Wasmannia auropunctata. These ants cause hardship for people living and farming in invaded areas. The ants sometimes tend sap-sucking insects, which stress crops and encourage plant diseases, reducing yields for farmers. Harvesting is also difficult due to the ant’s painful sting.
